March 18 "Killed in Action - Humboldt Airman" Lieut. Alan W. Lowry, U.S. Army Air Force pilot on duty with a bombing squadrom in England, was killed in action at age 22. He had only recently returned to active duty after being wounded in action several months previous, after which the young officer had been cited for bravery in action and had been awarded the Army Purple Heart medal. Lowry attended Humboldt State University before his enlistment in 1941. In college he was a member of the a cappella choir and took lead roles in several college stage plays. Lieut. Lowry was survived by his father Truman Lowry, his sister Mrs. Henry, and his brothers Early Lowry and George Lowry, as well as his Aunts and uncle. |
