Thursday, August 2nd, 1945 pg. 1 “Killed In Action: On Mindanao” Mr. and Mrs. Harry Light of Indianola have received word that their son, Technical Sgt. Andrew James Light, was killed in action July 13 in Mindanao. Most of his 32 months in the Army had been spent overseas. After training in Hawaii and Australia he fought through the New Guinea, Leyte, Philippine and Mindanao campaigns. He has been wounded in the haw by shrapnel on June 16 of this year but had recovered, returned to duty and was on patrol when he was killed. Sgt. Light had received the Combat Infantry badge. A graduate of Arcata High school. He was employed by the California Barrel company before being inducted. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his sisters and brothers: Mrs. Aaron Peterson of Bayside; Mrs. Runar Anderson of Freshwater, Roy Light of Oakland and Richard Light of Indianola. |
