Tuesday, May 15, 1945 pg. 1 “Eurekan Killed: On Okinawa” Mrs. Rebecca Gordon of 510 T street has received word that her son, Pfc. Charles F. Vaughn, with Company A, `84th Infantry, was killed in action April 22 at Okinawa. After training at Fort Ord and the Desert Training Center at Needles, Vaughn was sent to the Aleutians for one year, then to the Hawaiian and South Pacific Islands. He had been wounded several times and had received the Siler Star for valor and a Good Conduct medal. Other surviving relatives are his brothers and sisters, Pvt. Merle Vaught, with an Anti-Aircraft Battalion in Germany, Harold Vaughn, AM 3c, Oak Noll hospital, Oakland, and Kenneth, Alice and Alta May Vaughn of Eureka. |
