"Army Air Hero - Reported Missing" Staff Sergeant Drewry D. Barnes of Fortuna, awarded an air medal for service over Europe, was reported missing in action. Barnes attended the Fortuna schools and then served second mate on a pleasure launch on the Mississippi. He entered the service in 1941, training at Kessler Field, and was on duty in England before being transferred to Africa. He was survived by his brothers Berne, Dwight, and half-brother Marston, Jr, as well as his sister Mrs. Williams and his father Marston Barnes. |
