Monday, February 19, 1945 pg. 1 “Killed In Action” Staff Sgt. Edward Sousa of Eureka, 25 years old and a pre-Pearl Harbor veteran, was killed in action January 24 on Camotes Islands where he had been sent with a selected group from Leyte, landing on the Camotes, January 21. Sgt. Sousa left Eureka in March 1941, with the California National Guard and had been with the same unit since then, training extensively in the United States before overseas service in the Aleutians, on Kwajalein where he was with the Seventh Division, and in the battle for Leyte. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Sousa of 3411 F street, sisters and brother, Mrs. Roy Johnson, Eleanor and Abel Sousa, Eureka. The war hero is a graduate of Eureka high school. |
