Friday, February 2, 1945 pg. 3 “Garberville Man Killed In Action” GARBERVILLE, Feb. 2.- Serving in Belgium with an armored battalion, Pvt. James Lyford Higgins, 21, was killed in action December 18, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Higgins of this community. Born in Gunnison, Colorado, Higgins moved with his family to Garberville when he was eight years old and graduated from South Fork high school. He trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and went overseas in February of last year. Surviving are his parents; his brothers and sisters, Charles Higgins, AMM3c of the Navy, Harold and Helen Higgins of Garberville; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams of Ferndale; aunts, Mrs. James Blair of Eureka, Miss Clara Williams of Ferndale. |
