Tuesday, July 10, 1945 pg. 9 “Pvt. L. M. Swett Dies In Camp” Pvt. Lester Milton Swett died at El Paso, Texas, yesterday from paralysis and pneumonia. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Swett, who was born in Fortuna 35 years ago, had lived in Eureka five years prior to his induction into the Army, May 2, 1945. He had been an employee of Fluhrer’s Bakery for ten years and a member of the Eureka Volunteer Fire department. He also was a member of the local teamster’s union. Swett is survived by his wife, Melba and children, Shirley and Glenn of Eureka; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Swett of Fortuna; sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wood of Garberville, Mrs. Audrey Braga of Fortuna; brother, Sgt. Lowell Swett serving with the AAF in Germany; and several nieces and nephews. Pvt. Swett’s wife and sister, Doris, were at his bedside at the time of his death. |
