Wednesday, March 14, 1945 pg. 10 “Drowned: In Philippines” ARCATA, March 14- Mrs. and Mrs. Ben Shepherd of Arcata have received word recently that their son, Louis B. Shepherd, technician fourth grade, with the army in the Philippines, was drowned at Leyte earlier this month. Shepherd was a cousin of General James Doolittle, who had visited the Shepherd home as a youth. Louis (Bud) Shepherd was born in Humboldt county, attended school here, and served six years in the California National Guard. Entering the army soon after Pearl Harbor he had served with the infantry in many Pacific islands. Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline, who is employed in the Samoa office of the Hammond Lumber Company; a brother, Ray Shepherd, and his parents. |
