Wednesday, January 17, 1945 pg. 3 “Missing in South Pacific” Seaman 1c Robert Sellars, a gunner in naval service two years and at sea more than 18 months, is reported missing in action in the South Pacific. Sellars formerly worked for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company here, and was a member of the YMCA trained at San Diego. His parents are Mrs. Ruth Sellars of Eureka and Charles Sellars of Blue Lake and he is a brother of Norman Sellars in the Navy, Charles Sellars and Kathryn Luster of Eureka. “Killed In Action: On Navy LST” Seaman 1c Robert James Sellers of Eureka, missing in action with an LST division in the South Pacific since last Christmas Day, has been found dead, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Ruth M. Sellers of 803 California street. The 19-year-old youth graduated from Eureka High school where he was active in sports, a member of Boy Scouts and the YMCA. Before enlisting in October, 1943, he had worked here for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company. Surviving are his mother: brothers and sister, Ted Sellers of Eureka; Norman Sellers in the Navy, Mrs. Katherine Luster; grandmother, Mrs. Kate Paul; uncles, Harold Paul of Pine Hill, Bert Paul of Boonville, A. F. Paul in Oregon, William Paul of Garberville. He also leaves the following nieces and nephews: Sandra Lee, Joanna and Dennis Sellers and Larry Luster. |
