Thursday, March 15, 1945 pg. 11 “Lt. Robert Carlson Recuperating in Italy Hospital” Lt. Robert Carlson, navigator on a B-24, who was wounded February 25 when his ship encountered heavy flak over Germany, is making a normal recovery in a hospital in Italy, according to word recently received from him by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson of 1105 Hayes street. Lt. Carlson went overseas in January of this year and was on his seventh mission over enemy country when he was wounded. He wrote to his parents that he was receiving fine medical care and expected to soon be able to resume his duties. Humboldt Standard
Friday, July 27, 1945 pg. 1 “Killed In Action: On Okinawa” Private First Class Robert W. Carlson was killed in action on Okinawa June 19, according to word received here today by his mother, Mrs. Genevieve Carlson, 1458 East Avenue. The 18-year-old soldier attended the Nazareth Convent school and the Eureka High school. He was born and raised in Eureka, and before entering the service was employed by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company. Besides his mother, he leaves a brother, Gerald, and his sister, Patricia, both of Eureka. |
