Thursday, March 8, 1954 pg. 9 “Plane Crashes: Eurekan Killed” Sergeant Williard Woodcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. “Toss” Woodcock of 1801 H street, was killed in a plane crash in the South Pacific, according to word received by his parents from the War Department. Sgt. Woodcock, a native of Eureka, was stationed in the New Guinea area as an airplane mechanic with the Army Air Forces. After graduating from the Eureka High school he was employed in the bay area, and enlisted in the Army there almost three years ago. The young soldier was a brother of the former Janet Woodcock, who left here last Sunday for Vallejo after a visit here. She had been residing in Texas with her husband before he was shipped overseas. Surviving also are his grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. A. B. Hill; an aunt, Miss Anne Woodcock; and uncles Colin and Fred Woodcock and Ken Hill, N. W. P. conductor, all of Eureka. He also leaves several cousins. |
