Monday June 4, 1945 pg. 2 “PFC. Alvin R. Simons Killed” ARCATA, June 4- Pfc. Alvin R. Simons, 19, of Tulare, former employee of the Chicago Bridge and Iron company and the Baker and Stanton company in Eureka, was killed in action April 18 in Germany, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Simons of Tulare and relatives in Humboldt county. Pfc. Simons entered the Army in February, 1944, and was stationed at Camp Croft, South Carolina and then in Mississippi. He went overseas last November and served in England, France and Germany. While he lived in Humboldt he made his home with his aunt, Mrs. Rosa Simons of Bayside. Besides his parents and aunt he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Manuel Rocha and Mrs. Lee Lawrence of Tulare and a brother, Cpl. Joe Simons, who is now in Germany, and his cousins, Mrs. James Avila, Alice Simons, Jose, Frank, Ralph, Manuel, Albert and Raymond Simons of Arcata. Cpl. Joseph Simons, 25, went into the service in January, 1942, was at Camp Callon, San Diego, Camp Haan, Riverside and went overseas in July, serving in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. |
