Kathrin Burleson Artist Statement:
The work that you will see here is the result of my involvement with Honor Flight, a program that takes World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the Memorial that was built in their honor. My first trip was three years ago as a guardian for Charles Moon, who was a Forward Observer in Germany. Since then I have gone on two other flights, and been involved with North Coast Honor Flight. Locally, over 170 vets have taken this trip; nationally the number is around 80,000.
You can learn more about Honor Flight at www.HonorFlight.org. For the past two years, most of my time has been spent drawing these remarkable men and women, and recording their stories. It has been the greatest privilege and joy of my life. Portraits and interviews will be posted on facebook website, Faces of American Heroes, I invite you to visit often to get acquainted with these incredible American heroes.
