Wednesday, June 6, 1945 pg. 1 “Killed In Action” Harvey Morehead, 27, of Smith River, aviation radioman third class of the Navy, has been killed in action in the South Pacific, according to word received here by his wife, Lois, who lives at 3024 Williams street with her two children, Joan, two years old and Dennis Lee, six months old, whom the father had never seen. The Navy man was buried at sea with full military honors. Morehead graduated from the Del Norte High school and had been logging in the Smith River area before enlisting two and a half years ago. In addition to his family here, Morehead is survived by his mother, Mrs. Amanda Morehead of Smith River, and the following brothers and sisters, Cornelius Morehead in the Army, Mrs. Ethel Scott, Frank, Fred and Ray Morehead of Smith River. Mrs. Clara Lopez of Venice, Mrs. Louise Whipple of Eureka, Miss Loretta Morehead, who lives in Oregon, and Ted Morehead of Falk. |
