Friday, January 19, 1945 pg. 1 “Sgt. Vernon Jones: Lost in Action” T Sgt. Vernon Jones- Technical Sgt. Vernon E. Jones of Eureka, 26, serving with the 95th Division under General Patton, is reported missing in action since December 20 when the Army was fighting in Germany, Sgt. Jones left Eureka in February, 1941, with the first contingent of recruits, was with the 32 Division at Ford Ord and then was assigned to the 95th at Camp Swift, Texas. He was sent to Louisiana, to Los Angeles and to Indiantown Gap, New York, going overseas in August, 1944. During his service he had won the Good Conduct ribbon, Expert Rifleman Medal and the Infantry badge. He is a Eureka High graduate and was formerly employed by J. B. Thompson at the brick yard. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Jones who live on the Campton Road and his brother, T/Sgt. Lloyd Jones, is stationed at Seattle, Washington. |
