Tuesday, August 21, 1945 pg. 6 “William Blaikie Dies in France” Sgt. William T. Blaikie, 32, a prominent athlete when he attended Eureka high school for three years, died July 14 of this year in France after he had served 11 months overseas, according to word recently received from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Blaikie of Brownsville, Oregon. Sgt. Blaikie had also played baseball with the Eureka team of the Redwood League. Sgt. Blaikie was in the Medical Detachment of the 76th SHC Battalion and had been in the army three and a half years. Born at Bridge of Cally, Blair Gorie, Scotland, he came to this county with his parents when he was a child. He has graduated from Polytechnic High school in Long Beach. Surviving are his parents and a sister, Mrs. E. J. Barker of Lebanon, Oregon; a brother, Pvt. James Blaikie of the AAF of Eglin, Field, Florida, and other relatives in the country and Scotland. |
